(6,31,000 m²), the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest
temples in the world. In fact, the temple can be easily termed as the
largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world. The oldest
structure of the temple dates back to the 10th century. There are 21
gopurams (tower), among which the Rajagopuram is the biggest temple in
South India. It is 73 meters (240 feet) in height, and dates from the
17th century, although it was only completed in 1987.

construct Akshardham. The Akshardham Temple is one of the largest
temples in the world with an area of 2,40,000 m².

The fortified walls pierced with 4 gopura entrances offer a formidable
look to this vast temple complex . This temple spread over 24 acers
(1,01,171 m2).

10. Tiruvarur Thyagarajaswamy Temple
The ancient Sri Thyagaraja temple at Tiruvarur is dedicated to the
Somaskanda aspect of Shiva. The temple complex has shrines dedicated to
Vanmikanathar, Tyagarajar and the Kamalaamba, and covers an area of over
20 acres (81,000 m2). The Kamalalayam temple tank covers around 25
acres (100,000 m2), is one of the largest in the country. The temple
chariot is the largest of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
